Students will use a variety of objects to create their own thoughtfully arranged still life.Ħ. Introduce movement have a sketchbook or journal assignment that incorporates movement - tie it in with a line activity. ![]() Students will be introduced to the concept and process of blind contour drawings and then asked to create their own blind contour drawings, each using a different object for a specified amount of time.ĥ. Students will be taught what qualities to look for in an effective still life (balance, overlapping, variation in object shape and size, etc.).Ĥ. Students will be asked to discuss what they see in the still lifes and comment on why they feel the piece is successful or not.ģ. ![]() Students will be shown a number of thoughtfully crafted still life compositions, some created by professional artists and others by students.Ģ. In this lesson I describe how to practice Contour Drawing, Blind Contour Drawing and Semi-Blind Contour Drawing.Contour drawing is an excellent exercise that. For the gesture drawings, students will draw the objects quickly and roughly, using big sweeping strokes and breaking the objects into individual shapes to create a proportionate finished object.ġ. Baughman has adapted lesson plans he used at the college level including gesture drawing and blind contour drawing for self-portraits. Drawing describes new understandings of the human experience. The point of this exercise is to make them better observers. Drawing can communicate sensations, feelings or ideas to someone else.
